Breathe N Flow Yoga Introduces All Ages To the Restorative Power of Yoga

By Pamela Sosnowski

Breathe N Flow Yoga of Freeport, and Oceanside, is distinguishing itself from other yoga studios in that it truly offers a family-oriented yoga experience. In addition to the usual array of classes for adults, the studio also teaches kids yoga, prenatal yoga for expecting moms, and even yoga for mothers and their newborn babies.

"Breathe N Flow Yoga is a family yoga studio with a vision of offering Yoga to the community while creating a space that is welcoming to everyone," owner Leah Hartofelis said. "Our studio atmosphere is serene, offering our students a safe and peaceful environment to practice."

The studio teaches all levels of Vinyasa yoga, a yoga flow class in which breathing guides the movement of the body and restorative yoga, which is a gentle, therapeutic practice that incorporates the use of props to support the body through the poses. A candlelight yoga class practices Vinyasa yoga in a room lit with only candles, and chair yoga is taught for those that have limited mobility but still want to reap the benefits of yoga. In fact, there's about a dozen different forms of yoga taught which means there's a class for everyone.

The littlest aspiring yogis aren't left out, either. The kids yoga program introduces children to the notion of mastering their minds and bodies in a friendly, non-competitive environment. Children learn how to deal with stress while improving their flexibility and coordination.

Another unique offering at Breathe N Flow is its dry salt therapy, or halotherapy. During the 20 minute session members relax in a soothing room and inhale pure, dry, micronized salt air particles. These salt particles penetrate the deepest area of the lungs, helping to absorb bacteria, pollutants, and other toxins and delivering an anti-inflammatory and cleansing benefit. Dry salt therapy has been recognized as a safe and effective form of holistic therapy for children and adults with no side effects.

Rounding out the yoga offerings is a cardio class called POUND, which uses lightly weighted drumsticks that help participants burn anywhere from 400 to 900 calories per session. The POUND workout combines Pilates, plyometrics, cardio, and more and strengthens and sculpts the body, particularly the upper muscles as students drums their way to a svelte shape while listening to energy pumping tunes.

Breathe N Flow also participates in local community events, particularly to draw attention to social causes. In September, it will join 19 other local yoga studios for the annual One Love Long Island event, held at Sands Point Preserve. This daylong event will offer a variety of outdoor yoga classes with funds raised going towards nonprofits that are bringing awareness to human trafficking.

According to Hartofelis, yoga delivers many health benefits including improved strength and flexibility, mental focus, emotional state of happiness, breath control, blood flow, and so much more. The instructors at Breathe N Flow are encouraging, certified, and make it easy to find a form of yoga that is perfect for members, including those that have never done a downward facing dog.

"If you are new to yoga, introduce yourself to our experienced yoga teachers and staff," Hartofelis said. "They will happily guide students into the appropriate level classes, show you modifications and variations as needed. We offer beginner level workshops and yoga classes regularly."
