Natalie Weinstein Design Associates Is Transforming Long Island, One Room At a Time

By Pamela Sosnowski

An interior designer for over 45 years, Natalie Weinstein, Allied ASID, has seen and made over all types of spaces: residences, of course, but also auto dealerships, medical offices, and more. As the president of her own St. James-based interior design firm, Natalie Weinstein Design Associates, her passion for transforming living and work spaces has driven her for over 45 years and shows no signs of stopping anytime soon.

"To say I love what I do would be an understatement," she stated. "My approach takes the client on a learning journey with me. It's fun, and the end result gives their life and mine greater meaning."

The award-winning company is a full service design firm, offering Long Island area clients professional assistance whether they're in the initial stages of building a house or need advice on accessorizing their residence or office. Services include kitchen and bathroom renovations, drafting of floor plans and cabinetry, choosing colors and fabrics, and designing the right lighting.

She and her team have also designed "bonus rooms" for residences such as bowling alleys, arcades, gyms, and pool houses. Staying on budget is a key reason why many clients have trusted Weinstein and turned to her for design expertise.

"Our firm prides itself on being fiscally responsible as well as creative," she said. "Organization, co-ordination and implementation move our jobs along to completion. While the client never feels pressured or hurried, the job has a beginning and an end and we rarely run over budget or exceed deadlines."

In addition to heading her firm, Weinstein teaches interior design, and served as the executive director of the Willsey Institute for Art and Interior Design for over 30 years. She is a contributing columnist on Long Island area architecture for HOUSE Magazine, which has also showcased her projects, and she has appeared on PBS as well as several local radio stations discussing interior design. She even established her own club (Natalie Weinstein Decorating Club) which currently allows more than 15,000 Long Island-area members to enjoy her advice and attend seminars for free.

Weinstein's firm also offers special services for seniors and their families as they make life transitions such as home downsizing or need to prepare for an estate sale after the passing of a parent. These services include staging a home for real estate showings, cleaning out and disposing of household items, and helping one prepare to move into assisted living or a new home. Weinstein, who is a senior herself, offers this support to help lessen the stress seniors and their families may bear during transitional periods.

Just down the street from the firm is Weinstein's full service consignment store, Uniquely Natalie, in an old vaudeville theater, opened in 2012, after she enjoyed shopping for her Florida clients in consignment stores there. Uniquely Natalie regularly receives and sells excellent quality furniture, art, rugs, and accessories at a fraction of their original cost, providing a source of beautiful furnishings at discounted prices.

Her first love, however, will always be improving the living and workspaces of her clients.

"Each project helps me to spread the word and give meaning to my belief that your home is an extension of yourself," she said. "Your surroundings enrich and empower you to feel, think, and be better."
